Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus

For some reason I am thinking of Christmas this morning. I think it is a child thing. I don’t think there is anything wrong with my doing so, it is just odd. Holley’s birthday is November 30th and throughout the years we never allowed the Christmas season to overlap into Thanksgiving or her birthday. Basically, throughout these 30 plus years, there was no hint of Christmas until at least December 1. Though Holley and Adam are now grown and do not believe in Santa as they should, I still like the practice we have observed throughout these years. I don’t see me straying from this anytime soon. However, I think one of my items on my list to Santa this year is to once again capture the magic of the season through the eyes and heart of a child. Maybe that is what is driving my thoughts today

As many who know me know, I suffer from a disorder of sorts: I hold on to things I shouldn’t for reasons that even I can’t fully rationalize. However, it is one of those no harm no foul type of things. So, there are no prescribed treatments or any reason at this point to change. The oldest picture here is from the aftermath of our first Christmas as a family. The second picture speaks to my disorder. If you look closely, I am wearing the same Fisher Price Hat from 30 years ago and the White Rabbit from Alice could have just come off the shelf. Observant folks will notice the absence of the feather in the Fisher Price hat. Fear not, it is up there somewhere among the many Fisher Price toys I have kept through the years. I just didn’t feel like searching.  The containers of stuffed animals I looked through today in search of the rabbit revealed many I had forgotten as well as memories that just needed a prod.

I may need to kidnap a 4 or 5-year-old someday soon. Even their younger brother or sister as well. I think I can offer up a magical adventure for not only that age range but older ones as well. I know for a fact, that under that circumstance, even a cynical 61-year-old could relive the magic provided.
